Minutes for the August the 8th, 2008 meeting

1. Introductions, welcome to new members, Joan agreed to chair today's meeting and minutes was taken by Debbie.

2. Review of last minutes.

3. Agreement that the name "Healthy Active Hearts", stays for present.

4. Debbie adviced that a letter to be sent to PCT for funding and that we have received self help funding.

5. Debbie advised that support mentioned on Kemet Radio.

6. Discussion of poster and leaflets, Jonathan said he could setup a website for the group with free domain for the first two years, Search Engine Optimization and blog for the group to place information about the group, streaming video and links to interesting sites on the net.

7. Alan also offered his skills in design and artistry to produce leaflets and posters.

8. Discussion about members receiving a call to remind them about the next meeting, all agreed that if the minutes where sent out via e-mail with the date of the next meeting, this would be sufficient.

9. Discussion about future meetings, it was felt that a questionaire would be useful to find out what times would be best and may be to have alternative evening and morning and later I spoke to the YMCA who is thinking of starting another phase 4 exercise session on Friday mornings.

10. Another discussion about future meetings suggested ideas that could be covered, such as "Indian Head Massage", "Art Sessions", "Reiki", and "Smoothie making".

11. Unfortunately, we ran out of time for the walk, but we felt that this would be nice to do for the next meeting.

12. Debbie gave an outline of the Trent Cardiac Support meeting which took place on September the 28th, 2008. There were around 80 people attending, and Mr Lieu sent his apologies. This group is affiliated with the Aarhythmia Alliance and has social events such as a trip to the Oliver Theater and a shopping trip to Manchester. They had information on a course called "Hearty Voices" ran by BHF to help service users influence decisions in NHS. Also discussed was the effectiveness of piper alarms and to carry them at all times. The last minute speaker was Mr Tomlinson on Comic Capers. Noted future speakers are Mr Peter Homa on 26th September 2008 at the Sherwood Wing, City Hospital, Dr. Grey on the 30th October 2008 and a question and answer session by Mr Wilcox on 27th November 2008.

13. Any other business, Jonathan advised of an interesting programme called "Blood and Guts: History of Surgery, http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00d63vq/, which is available till 10:59pm, Thursday 4th September 2008. We also discussed the new British Heart Foundation (BHF) advertisement, which can be seen at http://www.bhf.org.uk/. And finally, Christmas do ideas was discussed.

14. The next meeting was stated to be on the 26th September 2008 at 10am at the YMCA on Raleigh Street.
